Newborn photography Geelong- Tommy

Interested in booking a newborn photography session with me ? I’ve answered 5 of your most commonly asked questions about what to expect when booking your newborn photography session with Jess Worrall Photography (that’s me!).

1. WHEN SHOULD I HAVE MY NEWBORN SESSION?

One of the beauties of newborn lifestyle photography is that there is no strict time-frame that you absolutely must have your newborn session within. Although if you are hoping for those really sleepy / tiny photos - it is best to schedule your session for sometime within the first 2 weeks. However, if you didn’t realise how much you were going to want to capture this newborn stage while you were pregnant, and have already had your baby - PLEASE still get in touch as I will always do my very best to help you and fit you in where possible

2. WHERE WILL THE SESSION TAKE PLACE?

All of my newborn sessions take place within your own home using natural light (no studio lights or flash). If you are outside of Geelong (and the Surf Coast / Bellarine Peninsula) and interested in a newborn session, please still get in touch as I’m always happy to travel further abroad (travel fees do apply)

3. CAN WE INCLUDE OUR OLDER CHILDREN IN THE SESSION?

My newborn photography sessions are very family focused - of course, your beautiful bub is going to be the star of the show, but it is so incredibly important & far more meaningful to capture the love, connection, emotion and those special and unique moments that you share together with your growing family – so yes, siblings are ALWAYS included and I often pace the session around the willingness and interest of toddler aged children

4. WHAT IF MY BABY IS UNSETTLED?

My newborn photography sessions allow plenty of time for feeding, settling and changes - so please do not worry if your bub needs extra top up feeds or is unsettled during your session - that is so completely normal & to be expected

5. WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

• MUMS, the single most important thing is that YOU feel ah-mazing and comfortable – so take this opportunity to buy yourself something that you feel a million dollars in and then you can pick the other outfits to compliment yours (keyword here is “compliment” not “matching”! It’s not necessary for you all to dress in jeans and the same coloured white/black tops ... in fact, please don’t do that!)

• Neutrals are timeless (but pops of colour are beautiful too and can really inject your own unique personality into your images)

• Long flowy skirts/dresses or simple basics matched with textures (scarfs/kimonos/cardigans) photograph really well

• Please avoid wearing shirts with graphics, logos or lettering, or mixing too many different patterns. These all detract from what the real focus of the image should be (you) and often, date really quickly

• My all time favourite newborn outfit? A neutral coloured singlet or short sleeved onesie - white or earthy/neutral colours photograph really well. So simple and it allows for alllll the focus to be on your gorgeous newborn and their cute little teeny tiny arms, legs, feet, cheeks ... you get the drift here, right? Plus, you can add colour and texture and extra prettiness with gorgeous muslins and blankets like below!

Do you have any other questions about what to expect during a newborn session with me? I will very happily answer them so feel free to shoot me through an email and i’ll get back to you within 24-48 hours.

Jess Worrall is a Geelong newborn photographer. Jess specialises in natural, relaxed and unposed photography. Jess sometimes likes to speak in the 3rd person, but generally just for blogging purposes, so please don't be too put off by that (I tend to not do it in real life). Jess is based in Torquay but will happily travel anywhere in and around Torquay, Geelong, the Surf Coast & Bellarine Peninsula to the comfort of your own home for your in-home newborn photography session.
